Karen Englander

Assistant Professor, Department of Languagues, Literature and Linguinstics

Dr. Karen Englander has been teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) for some 20 years in Canada, the United States and Mexico. Interestingly, she began her educational studies as an undergraduate at York University. She has now returned after many years abroad where she educated future teachers to teach English as a foreign language, and coached Mexican undergraduates, graduates and professionals in academic writing and scientific publishing. Her research focuses on scholarly publishing by scientists, especially those outside Canada and the U.S. She explores questions of policy, linguistics, and identity. Her publishing record (in Spanish and English) reflects this multi-faceted approach. Additionally, a direct outcome of her work is the successful publishing of research papers by international scientists. For Karen, her teaching, research and service are motivated by principles of equity, access, and justice.
